More riots rocked Paris for the second day. What is going on? Political upheaval? Worker strikes turned ugly? Nope. Two kids riding a motorcycle illegally were killed when they were speeding and crashed into a police car. According to early reports the police car being involved was just incidental, they weren't pursuing the youths, they were just on a routine patrol. Neither of the kids killed were wearing helmets.
Tragic accident.
But a means for starting a riot? The rioters are burning buildings, libraries and cars... in their own neighborhood! What does this solve? Nothing. France has had trouble in these areas before due to high poverty rates in mainly immigrant neighborhoods. This could have also spun off of the recent worker strikes that occurred in France due to new President Sarkozy passing legislation to get control of France's extremely beneficial entitlement program. (workers in question were given very nice pension plans and allowed to retire at age 50!) Out of control immigration + Poverty + Very little Government resonse = Riots.
Thumbs up for Sarkozy for trying to get control of things over there... but don't expect it to get any prettier anytime soon.
